I began studying Shotokan karate more than 25 years ago while attending Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC, where I was fortunate to be welcomed into a community of practitioners who were - and continue to be - among the leaders in sport and traditional karate in Canada. From the beginning, I loved the intensity, the challenge - how it was different from any other sport I'd ever done, and how no one else I knew was trying it! Now, after so many years of training, competing, winning, losing, getting knocked down and getting back up across British Columbia, Alberta, the US, and Japan, I want to share what I've learned. I believe that karate has something to offer everyone, regardless of age or ability, and that through its practice, we can become our better selves.
